Blender + Blendigo + Indigo

Blendigo is a script and not a standalone app but stills Blendigo≠Blender≠Indigo.

I voted Blender + Yafray or Indigo
Yafray would be nice to create scenes to share but Indigo is more trickier because it needs a total of 3 programs to use, and file paths are not compatible from a computer to another. Otherwise I would released an "Indigo ready to render kit".

Note that Blender is free, the other 3D apps are not. There's much more potential Blender users even if learning it is more painful.

Fluo lights are popular

Quote from T.J. :I don`t know how to make less enviroment light :P

Lower the energy setting in the ambient occlusion menu.

Quote from T.J. :Anyone know how to mask a texture in blender? I can`t find any tutorials =/ I got the mask and the texture, but I dont know how to apply them...

It's quite hard to explain. It is possible to do it, I did it a couple of times.
The mask should have an alpha channel. If not there's a setting somewhere to make Blender guess a channel from the texture color.
Then activate the "alpha" button in the "map to" tab in the material menu.
You'll probably have to play with other settings to make the mask working on.

Click anywhere on the 3D area, and the 3D cursor will be moved right on the mouse location

Actually a lamp is always spawn at the 3D cursor position. Maybe the cursor is too far away from the car or masked by a mesh.

It's due to the model resolution, originally created for a game. You can redo some of these low poly res parts but it needs some modelling skills and takes time.

Quote from Luke.S :thanks mate i'll give 3ds a try. Might be more acurate.

You can do this exactly like Ian said with Blender, select the roof polys and delete or separate them.

Like Mr B said I suggest you Solidworks for modeling for CFD application, because a LFS quality model would offer crappy results.

Keep in mind that CFD is not very accurate, even if it shows the main aero phenomenons. Nothing is better than a full scale 3/4 opened wind tunnel with rolling road and wheel spinner devices. Ah and a CFD calculation for a road car model computed with 30 cpus spends 10-20 hours

Quote from Feme :I give up .. becouse i cant meake rims so .. i dont show car wichout rims :P anyway .. i show my work in renders topic

Don't give up because of that. I didn't known how to model rims and I started to learn two weeks ago.

I use Blender and found no tutorial to read about rim making. So I learned by myself ...

First try:

It was a recon to find my modeling style procedure but was a dead end because I made a early mistake and Blender is not parametric so I could not undo..

Second try:

I restarted the rim from scratch and finally found the end. The experimental rim looks what I wanted. The 2nd try is already a success.

First application:

Now my current WIP. My third ever rim done very quickly. So don't give up for so little problem

So it's not the AO but the light(s) you added.

It still too much noised, raise the ambient occlusion sample setting. It should be higher than 25.

Nice work mate!

What do you used to make the white reflections on the body?
The tires material is also good, do you use specular shading?

I see nothing bad, the text in the window doesn't show an error message so I think it's the main interface which can't load. Maybe an openGL or a graphic card issue...

Quote from Feffe85 :Well... nice.. hmm.. have been downloading the pack from post #1.. and NOW i see theres a new one :arge: i better look more carefully next time.. ooh well..

It's not bad, you can try with the V1 kit before use the V2 which make a render every two hours.[/quote]

Quote from Feffe85 :i have been looking at the pictures that's been posted here and i must say.. renderings from 3dsmax look way better :O how come? or is it possible to make them look as nice in Blender?

I choosen the Blender internal render engine to share the most easy-to-use kit as possible in just one file. Everything else in the kit are compromises. So you can make better renders with other external Blender compatible renderers.

Quote from ddd9022 :I cant launch the blender
when i try to launch it, DOS window with some text about python appears for 2 seconds, then dissapears, and nothing more...
what i can do witht this shit?
(kill myself isnt a good solution)

Can you make a screenshot of this python window?

I agree with the rules, 1 month should be enough.

About Blender I will personnally use 100% of it for modeling but the internal render engine can't handle decent reflection plane technique. However powerful external renderers are usable with Blender such as Yafray, Kerkythea, Indigo, Povray, ..., ... to fit the rules.
So Blender is not an exception.

How many renders per entrant?

Boekanier probably used a translator, the text looks like a Yoda speech

I suggest we should organize compets regularly (with themes?) because many potential beginners would arrive and would not have enough time to train themselves now but would be ready for a future comp.

I'm also worrying about experienced 3D gurus who probably have ready parts to use so they should have more time to enhance their scene. On the other hand the beginners must create from scratch...

If you want to keep the specular shading (the white patches) move the sun light orientation. I've put a special sun in the fourth layer because I've known this camera position screws up the render because of specular shading reflecting on the car's body. Nobody used it...

Now if the white patches are annoying remove the specular shading generation from the sun light or tweak the materials settings or ultimately set a better lightning configuration. Almost nobody done that too...

Quote :But if you look at it closely its very grainy, why is this? Is there anyway to fix this?

The grains are caused by ambient occlusion you've turned on probably accidentally. Go to the World menu and depress the "Ambient occlusion" button.

Quote from DevilDare :Bogey Jammer you got to tell me how u got rid of those "white patches" they look super gay and rubbish. If you do ill get Blender again

Select the sun light above the car.
Go to the lamp menu.
Press the "No specular" button.

Yes I know that the cheap Blender renderer is not optimized at all.
There's only AO available, no GI.
Trace depth for rims was set to 3... but the gloss rendering method is visually effective but slow like shit.
bumping the floor is a good idea but takes too much time...

Compromise is very hard to find
